Re-Imagining Public Space

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, public spaces in cities were deserted and left unused. In order to revitalize these public spaces, some interventions were needed to transform these spaces into Covid-safe zones.
Firstly, in groups, we must conduct 2 case studies about how public spaces in the world were intervened to adapt to the pandemic.
Then, we were to come up with a Covid-19 intervention for our chosen public space in Taylor's campus.

Research

Our leader delegated the case study research. Members were to research about 2 public places that had been intervened to adapt to the pandemic.
Our chosen places were Julian B Riverfront Park and Thomas Avenue.
We then compiled our information in a shared google doc.

Meetings

We held meetings to finalize information and compose our informational board using canva.

Intervention

Once the case studies were finalized, we discussed our Covid-19 intervention in Taylor's campus.

Our chosen area was Unisquare and Lakeside staircase.

Our intervention concept was named 'Wishboard' and we aimed to transform our space into a fun yet Covid-safe area.
So, we inserted chess structures where activities could be conducted inside and introduced a wishing lane.

Although Ms. Renee gave us some basic guidelines we had to conduct our own research and extract information independently.

Through this assignment, we realized how people's well-being was affected by the pandemic. Hence, it's important to create a public space that catered to users' daily needs.

I reflected a lot upon the way I communicated with my teammates. I realized that I was too pushy and intimidating towards them. Eventually, I learned to put more faith on my leader and members and allowed them to do their work.
