World Scholar's Cup

World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is an international academic competition, where scholars compete in a debate, academic writing, and test competition. Also, WSC is actually a very fun competition so scholars could enjoy their time and make new friends from different countries.
My WSC journey was unexpected yet incredible for me, I used to think I was unfitted for such competition but  my cousin encouraged me to join. That was when I discovered my unknown potential.

WSC Mascot-Jerry the Alpaca

The mascot of WSC was an alpaca named Jerry. Alpaca was chosen as the mascot because they always seemed to be smiling, this reflected WSC's goal to bring smiles to scholar's faces. Fortunately, in every round, we get to adopt an alpaca home!

WSC: Penang Regional Round

There were 3 main rounds for WSC: regional, global, and Tournament of Champion (TOC) which was often held in Yale University, USA. Scholars needed to earn enough points in each round to proceed to the next round.

Preparation

WSC prepared a scope of study and different subjects with a fixed theme, we scholars need to self-study and research about these subjects as our knowledge will be tested. Also, we held debate training to prepare for WSC debate competition.

Regional Round

Our regional round was held in University Science Malaysia, Penang.

Alpaca Adoption

After the bowl round, we get to adopt our very own alpacas! Scholars were required to conduct an oath with their alpacas on their heads and swear they will be good parents.

Award Ceremony

We were pleased to score flying colors and were qualified for Global Rounds. Some of us were awarded top scholars too.

Most importantly, I now understood we should not let our doubts restrain us from trying something new; stay explorative with a passion to learn, we will never know what we are capable of.

Cert Of Appreciation From Government

The Penang state government awarded all WSC participants from my school a cert of appreciation for our hard work and contribution to Penang. This was such an honor for us.

WSC: Beijing Global Round

With one round down, its time to proceed to the next round. Global round was where scholars from all over the world meet to compete and have fun in this competition.
I participated the 2019 Beijing Global Round and once again pushed myself beyond the boundaries. Watching myself improving was truly a remarkable experience which helped to boost my confidence as a person.

The competition

This competition lasted around a week; we were excited to gain new experience and meet new people.

As expected, the challenges were more difficult and we met more competitive competitors. Still, there would be no fun without challenges.

Culture Fair

There were more fun events in Global Round like the cultural fair. Here  scholars will set booths to promote their country's culture. It was a good time to learn more about others' ethnicity and customs.

Award Ceremony

Time flew quickly and we reached the end of the competition. Nevertheless, we were rejoiced for obtaining remarkable achievements. We couldn't be more proud of ourselves.

Beijing Tour

Since we came all the way to Beijing, we certainly took that opportunity to explore Beijing. So, my school organized a one day trip in Beijing before we left for home.

Opening

The competition was held in the famous and beautiful Woosley Hall of Yale. There was a massive and grand organ at the center.

Pre-Competition

Before the competition we were actually very nervous and under a lot of pressure that we imposed on ourselves. However, we did not give up preparing and revising. It was a hard time, but we were reminded to not worry to much; just do our best and enjoy the process.

The Competition

This time around, the best of the best were there to compete; our opponents were very strong and with the increase in difficulties of challenges, it was harder to score higher points for the questions too.

At the same time, we managed to mingle with new people during the competition and it was nice to make new peers from different cultures.

Exploring Yale

Yale was an old and beautiful campus, it was a must to explore it. The quaint buildings of the university blended well with the autumn scenery; perfect for photography.

Visiting Painted Warrior

Apart from making new peers, we finally got to meet the official alpaca of Tournament Of Champions, named Painted Warrior!

Once all the competition ended. We got to indulge more in fun events held by WSC. SO at one night, we attended the scholars' ball.

Award Ceremony

Once again, we arrived to the end of the competition. Honestly, our team's results were not as great as the previous rounds. Nevertheless, we knew we gave it our all and had grown so much throughout that journey, we had no regrets.

Explore New York City

Before departing for home, we visited the most famous metropolis in the world. It was an eye-opening experience as I got to witness different lifestyles, buildings, and scenery.

Arriving Home

After a 2 weeks long journey we made our way home, hence, ending our WSC journey too. Our school greeted us with flowers as an appreciation for making the school proud.

WSC was a memorable and meaningful journey for me, I never could have imagined I would take part in such competition.

The journey was filled with ups and down but we gave our best in all circumstances. Thus, we learned so much and improved a lot as a person, now we knew its not always about goal, but most importantly about the growth.
