Something I Am
In this assignment, we needed to come up with an artwork about something we are by using the design process: empathy, define, ideation, and prototype.
First, we were given prompts to choose; then we will develop our empathy according to our selected prompts. The prompts I selected were something blue, something fun, and something light.
Empathy
Initially, my empathy was too simple and direct ( slide 4-6)
So I redid my empathy and challenged the conventional understanding of my prompts.
This was also when I realized my strength in expressing things creatively using visuals.
Define
Moving on to define. I selected the most relatable things from my empathy justified their meaning and relation to me.
After connecting all of that, I formed a narrative that served as the main concept of my artwork--I am Growth.
Ideation
After define, we came up with 3 ideations for our artwork, and then from the 3 we selected one or combined to proceed to prototype.
Ideation 1
The 1st ideation was like a depiction of a parkour-like tree filled with challenges that I needed to go through to achieve growth.
Here my analysis mentioned that all ideas in define were added but the composition looked messy.
Ideation 2
The 3nd ideation was an illustration of me on the growth tree joyfully achieving my goals.
I really liked this illustration as it was simple and clear. However, I would like to show more of the growth process.
Ideation 3
The 3rd ideation was very distinctive from the previous 2.
Here is an illustration of me undergoing a journey of growth, particularly from failure and then slowly developing into a confident and capable individual. As we can see, the growth process was clear.
Nevertheless, I struggled to add more elements to fill the composition.
Combining Ideation
After analyzing all my ideations, I decided to combine ideation 2 and 3 by uniting their strengths.
I prioritized the composition of ideation 2 but included the growth process shown in ideation 3.
Prototype
Now, I combined the ideations I liked to produce a draft for my artwork.Â
From here, my final artwork was developed.
Prototype 1
In the 1st  picture, I tried to implement the growth process emerging from the person in ideation 3.Â
However, the illustration was messy and lacked a focus.
In the 2nd picture, I implemented the form from ideation 2 and was quite satisfied by the result. It took me some time, but here the new illustration had a clearer focus and interesting outlook.
Prototype 2
Next, more details were added and changed.
Prototype 3
Once pleased with the details, I moved on to test the colors I wanted.
I was particular with choices of colors to achieve desired effects.
Prototype Final
As I decided on my colors, I went ahead to color the artwork.Â
At the same time, more details were added as refinements.
Present
Eventually, I reach my final artwork presentation.
