Design Principles
The last assignment taught us about elements, now in this assignment, we learn to bring order to our spatial designs by employing design languages.Â
This project was group work, and we must make a final 20 x 20 x 20 ( cm ) hybrid model ( combining all 4 of our individual models) . The form of our model must 1st be derived from our 1st assignment, then we design new forms using design principles. Finally, we must combine our model designs into that one hybrid model.
Meet My Team
Deriving Form
We each went back to our own selected lines patterns in assignment 1 and derived two basic shapes from there. Then we employ shape grammar ( rotate, cut, mirror, fold etc. ) to manipulate those shapes into the basic element that we will use in both of our own 10 x 10 x 10 ( cm ) models later.
10 x 10 x10 model series
Next we each must produce two 10 x 10 x10 ( cm )  models using our own 2 shapes. But each model must be designed according to one design principle. So there were 8 design principles in total: balance, contrast, rhythm, movement, harmony, variety, emphasis, and unity.Â
Each of us was in charge of 2 design principles to make 2 models of it.
20 x 20 x 20 model series
Once we came out with our own model designs, it was time to combine them into the final 20 x 20 x20 model series. But first, we had to modify our individual models' designs to combine them into one single 10 x 10 x 20 model, then use those combined models to form our final 20 x 20 x20. So we first planned the overall look of the final model, produced mock-ups, and finalized the designs.
Final Model
We used photoshop to combine the images of our models.
